A positive review of Cabinet des Fees #2 has been posted over at The Fix.
It’s always interesting to see what other people get out of something I’ve written, the interpretations they bring that weren’t necessarily consciously in my mind as I was writing. Art is a conversation, and it’s nice to hear what other people have to say.
My contributor’s copy of the Cabinet des Fees Double Issue arrived yesterday, and it is truly a thing of beauty. It’s trade paperback format, with wonderful cover art by Charles Vess and equally wonderful interior illustrations by Daniel Trout.
Here is a little taste from my oh-so-humble contribution, Giantkiller, to wet your whistle.
Crack! It was a terrible sound, a wet splintering sound, and pain came with it - so much pain. Even sleeping she could feel the needle going in and out, each deft stitch making her whole again…
Earlier today I received an e-mail informing me that my short story, ‘Matthew’, will be appearing in ChiZine #35. ChiZine is one of my favorite publications. I’ve subbed to them quite a few times and their rejections have always been prompt, kind, and helpful. (Their acceptances are even better!) Their guidelines rock. Their Editor-in-Chief is a fellow Canadian. And I’ve enjoyed pretty much everything that I’ve read that they’ve published.
Nobody pinch me just yet, I want to enjoy this for a while longer.
I think Lewis Caroll put it best when he said, “And the mome raths outgrabe.” Although I have to admit for quite a while I was convinced the line was, “And the mome raths Feng Shui,” - an image which I find equally pleasing.
But the real point is, Jabberwocky 3 is now available from Prime Books, and my short story, Little Red, can be found within.
It’s my voodoo, it’s my juju, and it keeps the fear at bay. It’s my dirty little secret - I worry too much to ever be afraid.
