Shelves, Glorious Shelves!
I have a problem. I’m fully willing to admit I have a problem. I will not even pretend that I can stop anytime I want. I’m addicted to buying books.
As a result of my addiction, my bookshelves tend to fill up pretty quickly, so I spent the past weekend assembling four new bookshelves. For comparison purposes, here are the old shelves, full to over-flowing.

Post assembly, my incredibly comfy couch is now surrounded on three sides by bookshelves. This makes me very, very happy.
Speaking of assembly, I love Ikea instructions.

Step One: Talk to your tools. No one will think you’re crazy, we promise.
Step Two: Don’t glare at your shelves, smile creepily at your friend.
Step Three: Don’t break your shelves, stroke them lovingly.
Step Four: If you’re easily confused, call Batman Ikea.
The cat didn’t approve of the weird, Swedish instructions either. He does, however, approve of his new-found ability to jump up on the shelves and loom over anyone sitting on the couch.

Of course, now that I have four new bookshelves, I have a moral obligation to fill them as quickly as possible. In an attempt to to do just that, I’ve already been on several book shopping sprees.

New acquisitions include, Drood by Dan Simmons, Real Unreal edited by Ann and Jeff VanderMeer, Tails of Wonder and Imagination edited by Ellen Datlow, The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe, The Year’s Best Fantasy and Science Fiction 2009 edited by Rich Horton, Mister B. Gone by Clive Barker, Couch by Benjamin Parzybok (thanks, Amy!), The Great Fables Crossover by Bill Willingham, A Companion to Wolves by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear, and Y: The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. Not pictured is House of Mystery: The Space Between by Matthew Sturges and Bill Willingham, which I’m currently devouring I just finished. I’m betting it won’t take me too long before these shelves are overflowing, too.
